Lengthen Children’s Jeans Jogger Style Sewing Tutorial

My boy is growing like a weed. I really want to get one more season from these jeans that fit fine in the waist. I decided to take it trendy with jogger style. This easily added almost 3″ to the length.

Tools:

sewing machine

scissors

pins

marking tool

ruler

Materials:

rib knitĀ  1/4 yard or remnant

thread

Lets get started.IMG_1242

Take your well loved jeans and cut off only the hem. you are trying to keep as much of the length as possible.

Make 2 rectangles 6 1/2″ long . The width is dependent upon the size of the jeans. width of the rectangle should be about 1 1/2″ narrower than the jeans when laying flat. For a size 4 jeans I needed 8″. the idea is the the rib knit will stretch to match the jeans.

Fold the knit in half matching the 6 1/2″ sides

Sew with 1/2″ seam stretching as you sew. this will keep it from cracking threads when being used.

Fold down wrong sides together.

It should look like this.

Slide over the bottom of the jeans and stretch as you pin them together.

Sew with a straight stitch with about 1/4″ seam allowance.

Next sew close to edge with a zigzag stitch. You can also serge if you have one.
