It is easier to sew down to the zipper than start at the zipper

IMG_1117

Trim off excess zipper.

This is going to look like a sandwich, face side up back piece then pocket with zipper then back piece wrong side out. Pin together.

IMG_1119

Sew with 1/2″ seam allowance down 2 sides and the curved side leaving the bottom unseen.

IMG_1120

Turn right side out again or more accurately turn pocket to the other side.
Seam will now be covered inside the bag.

Pin the strap in place on the back about  3 ” from the top of the bag. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

IMG_1129

Fold up and sew again at a 1/2″ inch from the previous stitch. This should cove the raw edge of the strap.

Put in snap. Either a sew in kind or a plastic snap with snap press.

Some possible variations:

Sew a piece of Velcro on the outside of pocket and on the inside top of back piece.
Sew the pocket without the zipper by placing pocket piece right sides together and turning right side out and top stitch. Continue the rest the same as you would if there was a zipper.
